POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
About Political Science Department:
Katahguri College established in 1988 and affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati, Assam. Since then, the department tried for its reputation and to match with institution’s vision and mission. The College got Provincialisation in 2021. The Political Science Department offers the UG Honours & Regular Degree course.
Aims & Objectives of the Department of Political Science:
- To guide students properly.
- To create and maintain a significant intellectual environment for the teaching, Skill and extensionactivities in the field of Political Science to the advancement of knowledge and service to the public.
- To develop students’ comprehension of political thinking, the application of communication and analytical skills that will help them succeed in their chosen careers.
- To provide students both a survey of political institutions and processes within governments and societies and a set of analytical skills to promote employment and quality of life.
- To broaden their understanding of cultural diversity.
- To prepare students to become informed dynamic citizen.
- To introduce the certificate course related to political system like Women and Politics to broaden knowledge.
- Our students are therefore challenged, encouraged, and supported to attain the highest levels of knowledge, skills, and character in order to enhance their competencies to suit for a career in competitive markets.
- To provide knowledge about political systems and processes, political science education empowers individuals to actively engage in democratic decision-making, exercise their rights and responsibilities, and contribute to shaping their societies.
Mission:
- To gather knowledge about the political concept along with the contemporary issues of Indian Political scenario.
- To focus and acquaint the students on politicalmajor concepts like authority, legitimacy, liberty, equality, rights, citizenship, governance and justice.
- To aware and make the students in competitive field to fit for engagement.
- To lead in new knowledge creation in the discipline, particularly in support of strengthening democratic processes and institutions.
Vision:
- To impart quality education so as to develop scientific temper and spirit of critical inquiry.
Future Plan:
- Dedicated and energetic teaching faculty.
- Impressive result of Final Examinations.
- Increasing students’ strength in major/Honours Course.
- Faculties are aware and paid special attention to those students who are weak in learning. Remedial classes, tutorials are the measures taken by the teachers in each and every academic session.
- Besides fixed curriculum the students are encouraged to participate various seminars, extension activities, lecture classes etc.
