About the Department:
The Assamese Department of Katahguri College has been a cornerstone of the institution since its establishment in 1988. Committed to promoting the rich cultural and literary heritage of Assam, the department offers multiple courses (BA Regular, BA Honors and MA (IDOL) and activities aimed at nurturing a deep understanding and appreciation of Assamese language and literature, and continues to be a beacon of cultural enrichment for students and faculty members.
Aims and Objectives of the Assamese Department:
The Assamese Department of our college is committed to the preservation, promotion, and dissemination of the rich cultural and literary heritage of Assam. Our aims and objectives are deeply rooted in the core values of academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and community engagement. Here are the key objectives that guide our department:
- Study and Appreciation of Assamese Literature:
- To study and analyze the various genres of Assamese literature, including, prose poetry, drama, and folklore.
- To develop a critical understanding and appreciation of the works of eminent Assamese writers and poets.
- Preservation and Promotion of Assamese Language.
- To impart comprehensive knowledge of the Assamese language, its grammar, syntax, and phonetics.
- To encourage the use of Assamese language in various forms of communication and expression.
- Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity
- To instill a sense of pride and respect for Assamese culture, traditions, and values.
- To organize cultural events, seminars, and workshops to promote Assamese art, music, and dance forms.
Research and Scholarly Activities:
- To encourage research in the field of Assamese language, literature, and culture.
- To facilitate scholarly exchange and collaboration with other institutions and scholars working in related fields.
Community Outreach and Engagement:

Faculty Exchange Programme:
The faculty exchange programme is a collaborative activity of two educational institutions, united under a Memorandum of Understanding, exchanging the services of their selected faculties for a short period. The primary aim of faculty exchange program is to provide the opportunity for the exchanged personnel to encourage professional development through the stimulus of a different setting and for the host organizations to benefit from the knowledge and skills of the exchanged personnel.
